Shira Cohen

My name is Shira Cohen-Katsir and I’m a still photographer based in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Before turning to photography and graduating from Studio Gavra Institute & School of Photography in Tel Aviv, I studied history and Hebrew linguistics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where I also lived for six years. Jerusalem, with all of its contradictions and peculiarities, significantly shaped and still shapes the understanding of my profession. In my work, I attempt to explore and capture spaces, moments, and experiences of the in-between: between secularity and religiosity, ordinariness and exceptionality, individuality and community.
